Cain Concept—The Benchland is vinified and aged exactly like the Cain Five, but the core of this wine is Cabernet Sauvignon grown on the classical “benchlands” that have defined the greatness of the Napa Valley for more than 100 years. Naturally, in the “Cain Way,” we blend in the sister varieties to build complexity, to add nuance, to articulate the structure, and to draw the wine to a satisfying finish.

Vineyards: 100% Napa Valley, Rutherford: Morisoli Borges, Beckstoffer George III, Hudson; Carneros: Truchard; Atlas Peak: Stagecoach

The Cain Concept is the ripest, roundest, fullest wine in our collection. It is a wine of wonderful ripeness, that epitomizes our ideals of Cabernet Sauvignon grown in the classic Benchlands of the Napa Valley. It displays the aromatic complexity, smooth entry, balanced mouthfeel and graceful finish, which are the signatures of the Cain style. It is simply bursting with fragrant aromas of fruit, flowers, tobacco and spice, all layered over a zesty, juicy structure that promises many years to come. The Napa Valley is justifiably famous for one variety. As diverse and complex as our little Napa Valley is, many good wines are grown in a comparatively small area. But in this valley, there is only one variety that can be called great: Cabernet Sauvignon. Even then, there is no more than 10% of the Napa Valley that can grow the quality of wines for which the Napa Valley is recognized the world over. The best known and the most classical sites are the alluvial benchlands which line the edges of
the Napa Valley from Yountville to Calistoga. The heart of this all is in Oakville and Rutherford. It is from here that we draw the Cabernet Sauvignon for Cain Concept—The Benchland. If you know Cain, you know that, while there are many wonderful Cabernets grown in the Napa Valley, nothing else tastes like Cain. The reason for this is very simple: Intention. When many are
looking for intensity, our quest is complexity. Where many want power, we strive for grace. The result is a balanced, multi-faceted wine that not only will age well, it keeps us, and you interested and refreshed throughout the course of a meal and a conversation with friends. And that’s what wine is all about.
