The Cain Cuvée is our most creative endeavor. It’s about the style of Cain and our vision of what classical red wine can be. Drawing from specific vineyards, both mountain and valley, as well as two harvests, we strive to compose a wine of aromatic complexity that is truly silky and sits lightly and refreshingly on the palate. If we have succeeded, the wine will dance on your tongue!

Vineyard locations: 67% Spring Mountain District, 33% Valley Floor, 100% Napa Valley

Here’s what I wrote a year ago, and we continue to hold the line:
The back label says it all: Harvested, Vinified, and Blended for Freshness, Lightness, Complexity and Balance. Our
intention with the Cain Cuvée hasn’t wavered since the very first, more than thirty years ago. And in
1998, it became even more focused with the inception of blending two vintages.
To see what’s new, read on down.
In the NV17, the Cain Vineyard dominates, contributing two-thirds of the total, split evenly between the
two vintages, while Merlot grown on the valley floor provides a silky-fruity backdrop.
Once again, the NV17 illustrates perfectly the way in which two vintages blended together can complement
one another. 2016 was a relatively cool year that gave us some lovely, light, perfumed wines, perfect for
Cain Cuvée, while, at the outset, the 2017 harvest promised to deliver firm, deeply structured complex
wines—the ideal complement to the more delicate 2016s.
But then our world changed. In 2017 a dramatic series of wildfires visited Napa and Sonoma, and the Cain
Vineyard, though untouched, was bathed in a sea of smoke that did not dissipate for two weeks. The
second half of our harvest was lost.
Thankfully, those early, fresh lots that we picked and vinified specifically for our Cain Cuvée were
singing and we had everything we needed to compose the most beautiful and focussed Cain Cuvée to
date. You’ll easily find the signature of the Cain Vineyard, with its bright floral and herbal aromatics.
This will be a fun one to pair with your grilled seafood, sausages or roasted chicken—think rosemary
    and thyme!

Wine Vintages, Bottle Labels, ABV, Ratings, & more

If an item does not have the vintage in the title/item name, we do not guarantee a specific vintage unless we explicitly advertise that vintage for sale. Additionally, the pictures of products on our website are for visual/informational purposes and do not necessarily indicate the current vintage(s) or labels available.

While the product images depict the intended product, label designs and packaging may be altered by the producer/manufacturer at any time. We do not guarantee a specific label or bottle design when you order.

The Alcohol By Volume / ABV percentage reported is meant to be a general guideline given fluctuations in production, sometimes ABV is reported as a range (ex. 12.5% - 13.5%), etc.

Wines labeled as "highly rated" are wines that at some point, including prior vintages, received excellent reviews and scores/points from established critics (and we do our best to report the specific vintage reviewed in the product description notes). It is meant to indicate (as a general guide) that the wine producer received accolades for that product for convenient filtering when browsing and searching.

Dietary Claims, Ingredients, & Other Product Attributes

We make every effort to accurately describe the wines we sell, including any claims made by the wineries regarding the wine's ingredients, additives, or production methods. However, we cannot independently verify the accuracy of these claims. When wineries label their wines as "low sugar," "gluten free," "low sulfites," or any other claim, we rely on the information provided to us and simply label the wines as we are told. Therefore, we cannot be held responsible for any inaccuracies or omissions in these claims. It is always recommended that customers consult with their healthcare professional if they have any concerns or questions about the ingredients in the wines they are purchasing.
